The Door Marked by the Lamb: Remembering Pesach, Deliverance, and Messiah

There are moments in Scripture where a physical object carries the weight of a much larger story. A doorway marked with blood. A piece of bread broken and shared. A stone rolled away. Throughout the biblical narrative, God uses tangible reminders to help His people remember His faithfulness.

I created a handcrafted Pesach mini tapestry to commemorate one of those reminders. A reminder the Lord strongly expressed we have. 

Small enough for a child's hands and beautiful enough to display every Passover, this piece was designed to help families remember the story of Pesach, the deliverance of Israel from Egypt, and the greater redemption woven throughout Scripture.

The Door Marked by Blood

On the night of the final plague in Egypt, Adonai instructed the children of Israel to place the blood of a spotless lamb on their doorposts. Those who obeyed, even those outside of the people of Israel, were spared from judgment and death. This act marked the beginning of the Exodus, when God rescued His people from slavery and brought them into freedom. It also displayed God's heart for Israel and for the nations. 

The tapestry depicts a doorway marked with blood, representing that night of deliverance. The blood is shaped like the Hebrew letter tav (ת), which, among other things, means mark, sign, and covenant.

The mark on the door was more than a symbol of protection. It was a sign of God's covenant faithfulness and the beginning of an extraordinary relationship between Adonai and Israel.

Scripture says:

"At the end of 430 years to the day, all the divisions of Adonai left the land of Egypt. This was a night when Adonai kept vigil to bring them out of the land of Egypt, and this same night continues to be a night when Adonai keeps vigil for all the people of Isra'el through all their generations."
Exodus 12:41-42 (CJB)

Pesach Passover is a yearly reminder that God remembers His promises and faithfully delivers His people.

The Tav and the Promise of Messiah

The Hebrew letter tav carries another layer of meaning. In ancient Paleo-Hebrew, the letter tav was represented by a symbol resembling a cross.

When looking closely at the two-tone version of this tapestry, the doorway itself also forms the shape of a cross. To me, this detail points to the connection between the first Passover lamb in Egypt and Yeshua Jesus, who thousands of years later would die on a tree on Passover.

For those of us who believe Jesus is the promised Messiah, I wanted to create another version of this tapestry that alludes to both the cross and the door. I created a two-tone door that shows a cross. In John, we read that Yeshua Jesus is the Door through which we enter into salvation, the way we can get to the Father.

"I am the Door. Anyone who goes in through Me will be saved from the punishment of sin."
John 10:9 (NLV)

“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me." John 14:6 (NLV)

A Story to Remember and Pass Down

Pesach Passover is not only a celebration of what happened in the past. It is an invitation to remember God's deliverance and tell the story to the next generation.

The Scriptures instruct:

"You are to tell your son, 'It is because of what Adonai did for me when I left Egypt.'"
Exodus 13:8 (CJB)

This tapestry was created with that command in mind. It serves as a small but meaningful reminder of God's faithfulness. Every Passover, my family gets this tapestry out and displays it.

For those who believe Yeshua Jesus is the Messiah, the story of Pesach carries an even deeper hope. Paul writes:

"For you are all one in Messiah Yeshua. And if you belong to Messiah, then you are Abraham’s seed, heirs according to the promise."
Galatians 3:28-29 (TLV)

The story of deliverance continues. The God who rescued Israel from Egypt is the same God who calls His people from all the nations into freedom, covenant, and redemption today.
